ZV3 – The Quiet Revolution in High Performance Tyres
Cooper-Avon Tyres introduces its new ZV3 high performance tyre. Resulting from an exciting new development in tyre design, the ZV3 blends all the roadholding and controllability you’d expect from Avon with an added twist – quietness. Brought into effect from August 2003, European directive No. 2001/43 governs the amount of noise emitted by car tyres; the ZV3 comfortably surpasses this important new legal requirement to create a new generation of Avon high performance tyre.
Superior in every respect to the ZV1 that it replaces, the ZV3 is instantly recognisable by its distinctive asymmetric tread pattern. This tri-sector design is the key to the ZV3’s unique cocktail of dry and wet weather grip, on-the-limit predictability, and ear-pleasing noise levels. The three sectors work in the following ways:
- The inside shoulder – designed to efficiently disperse water from the ZV3’s contact patch; tread pattern computer optimised to reduce noise levels to a minimum.
- The middle section – combines diagonal grooves with an unbroken circumferential ring to sharpen steering response and resist aquaplaning.
- The outer shoulder – employs tread blocks designed to promote stability during cornering, which in turn adds to the ZV3’s predictability at the limit.
In addition to the aforementioned qualities, the overall design of the ZV3’s tri-sector tread pattern, plus its use of a specially formulated, high silica content rubber compound, ensure even wear characteristics and improved wet surface braking.
The ZV3 has other important attributes, too. Certain sizes incorporate a ‘rim flange protector’, a specially shaped lip of rubber where the tyre meets the wheel, intended to help protect expensive alloy wheels from accidental kerb damage. And unlike fully directional tyres, the ZV3’s asymmetric tread pattern means that the spare can be fitted to any corner of the car when needed.
Obtainable from Avon stockists now, the ZV3 is available in 55 sizes spanning 14-inch to 17-inch diameters, and comes with H, V and W speed ratings. So while it heralds a new era of quiet high performance tyres, the ZV3 is sure to make a big noise in the tyre market this year.
