Cooper Tire Partner in Cooper Tire Prototype Lights Championship

The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and Cooper Tire have entered into a new partnership highlighted by the renaming of IMSA's prototype development series to the Cooper Tire Prototype Lites Championship, where Cooper will be the spec tire of this professional sports racer series through the 2013 race season.

This series will give racers the opportunity to sharpen their skills in a multi-class format — the L1, L2 and L3 — which will present an extra dimension of competition, as drivers of the L1 cars will be traveling at distinctively different speeds than the slower and lighter L2 and L3 cars. All three classes will compete on Cooper racing slicks. This series will allow racers to advance beyond traditional club racing, preparing for a career in a world-class series such as American Le Mans (ALMS).

The cars for this prestigious road racing series are being manufactured by builders such as Van Diemen Motorsports, Elan Motorsports Technologies and West Race Cars, and the season's expanded schedule will allow racers from around the world the opportunity to compete at historic racing venues like Sebring International Raceway, Road Atlanta and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Promotional programs such as a $500 Cooper Tire Pole Position Award will be awarded to the fastest qualifier on each event weekend.
